Our curating team is excited to invite HBAS members and also to those who work and live in the municipality of Hobsons Bay.

This exhibition will be a celebration and snapshot of what living in the western suburbs is all about and what it means to work or live in the western suburbs.

Artists will have a different perspective depending on where they live – industrial, trucks, factories, abandoned warehouses, roadworks, tugboats, ship containers, village life, beaches, piers, bike trails, immigrant influence, market gardens, cultural diversity, Footscray market, fishing boats, marinas, sailing boats, Bulldogs FC, and sunsets …. the list goes on. “What story do you wish to tell?” or “What is your story?”

The launch of the exhibition will be at Hobsons Bay Civic Centre on the 14th February, so come along and enjoy the sights of the West. Many are available for purchase, perhaps one along and buy a painting for a loved one.

HBAS is calling Artists from Melbourne’s Western Region: you are invited to take part in the 5X7 Art Prize 2025! 

Registry to enter the 11th annual 5X7 Art Prize is by attending in person at Louis Joel Arts & Community Centre, 5 Sargood St, Altona 3018.

There are two Registration Sessions:

• Wednesday 5th February @ 7-9pm (Art Room) or • Saturday 8th February @ 10am - 12 noon (Foyer area). 

Some important information:

• you must reside in the Western Region of Melbourne to enter: eligible municipalities are Brimbank, Hobsons Bay, Maribyrnong, Melton, Moonee Valley and Wyndham. 

• Each artist can register for up to 3 entries at $5 each.

• You will be supplied with a 5” x 7” canvas panel on which to create your entry in any medium you choose (straight photography is not permitted, but creatively altered images, or photos used in a mixed media artwork are allowed).

• Finished artworks are to be returned 26 & 29 March ahead of the event which takes place 5 - 24 April.

• The theme for this year’s event is: Patterns. Prizes will be awarded for the best artworks depicting the theme.

Congratulations to all our talented artists, especially Stella Kinsella, who took home the Best in Show award for her painting 'Sometimes Red Shoes'!
